Words of wisdom from Rick Steve on the value of travel at TEDx Rainier
By far my favorite and most inspirational speaker at TEDxRainier was Rick Steves. His anecdotes told touching tales of cultural compassion, understanding and tolerance. My favorite tidbits from his talk:
- Travel wallops ethnocentricity.
- Our dream is beautiful, and so is theirs.
- On why he went to Iran: "I think it shows good character to know people before you bomb them."
- Fear is for people who don't get out very much.
- A society has to make a choice: tolerate alternative lifestyles or build more prisons. America locks up eight times as many people as Europe does.
