Ben & Jerry's understands marketing. They know their audience, and they know that their brand depends on decadence and indulgence.
And they know it in Spain, too, because they ran this ad introducing their creamy, rich, chocolatey, frozen goodnes in comparison to one of Barcelona's most famous treat: patatas bravas from Cafe Tomas.
I took a trip to Bar Tomas to see just how decadent these fried treats were. And I can say that the comparison is just. Patatas bravas from Tomas are a salty, spicy bit of deep-fried bliss. The dipping sauce... well, I'm not quite sure what it is, but it's something between mayonnaise and cheese with cajun spices thrown in. One small plate will hold you for a whole day, but that doesn't mean you won't want more.
Sounds a bit like... Ben & Jerry's ice cream, doesn't it? The marketing is spot on: patatas bravas at Bar Tomas are just what Ben & Jerry's would be if it were served hot and savory.
