Evan Williams ended his talk at TED last week with a simple yet powerful statement:
True enough. He spoke on being open to seeing how your users change your product or service on their own, pointing out that Twitters users themselves developed the @ method of replying; that wasn't part of the original interface. And he points out that Twitter has grown far beyond what he and his team had expected--from short, personal updates on small life events to citizen journalism tracking the Los Angeles area wildfires to substantial fundraising efforts. In short, people are using Twitter to connect and communicate in ways that hadn't been possible without this technology.
Garr Reynolds says he doesn't believe there is a "right" way to use Twitter, and I believe that is the point. The idea is to go in to a new tool or technology asking, "What can I do better with this?" And then ask, "How can I change this to work better for me and for others?"
